Brownsville ISD Inaugurates Texas Largest Computer Screen Scoreboard
August 30, 2018 by Chuck Baker
Brownsville ISD has unveiled a 65 ft 1 inch x 33 ft 7.25 inches computer screen scoreboard at Sams Memorial Stadium. Controlled by a high-end Mac computer system and proprietary software, the approximately 2186 square foot screen is currently the largest of its size in Texas. (Yes, you do hear the whistles blaring to call emergency meetings at school boards all across the state to revise the specifications for all planned high school stadium construction projects!) The $1.5 million installation can operate full screen or segment the display to offer windows for showing the game play, a scoreboard, player and team stats, sponsorship branding, advertising and more.
To produce the content for the board, the video crew is using a NewTek TriCaster® 8000 multi-camera integrated live production system and a NewTek 3Play® instant replay/slow motion sports production system. Both systems offer real-time social media publishing and integrated graphics, animation and digital effects with the ability to customize templates and create new ones as needed. TriCaster 8000 offers 12 physical inputs, 4 mix outputs and the ability for network-based workflow via NewTek’s NDI, royalty free bidirectional IP technology for transport of video, audio, metadata and communications over standard networks. In addition TriCaster offers virtual sets, live streaming, multi-layering of video and graphics, downstream keying, 8 Mix/Effects banks and a full motion composition engine, and hundreds more production features and capabilities.
More than just digital signage, the installation is a complete AV system, with a new audio system for the stadium in addition to the giant digital display. The audio system originates from the scoreboard, but also offers inputs in a variety of stadium locations including the press box. The system is rounded out with video capture capability for up to six wireless cameras.
