NDI® Central Podcast - 2019 Ep. 3: Medialooks
April 26, 2019 by Chris Burgos, video; Chuck Baker, text.
In this podcast, NewTek’s Chris Burgos speaks with Medialooks co-founder and CEO Andrey Okunev. Medialooks is a middleware software developer that provides Application Programming Interface (API) software development kits (SDKs) for other developers to build products that use video. In 2016 they were an early adopter of NewTek’s now industry-leading standard for video-over-IP using standard networks, NDI®, by integrating it into their MFormats Professional and Expert level API products, and thus into their MPlatform broadcast television production and playout automation API.
More recently, their look at the popular uses for NDI in team play and team streaming in esports, and for streaming to social video networks, was that there was a need to connect distributed NDI workflows. They developed their Video Transport application, which delivers NDI streams across long distance via the public Internet with ultra-low latency and at high quality, with adaptive bit rate support, point-to-point encryption and PTZ camera control. Okunev discusses some recent use cases for Video Transport with Twitch and Twitch streamers, and comments on how ubiquitous NDI has become among game streamers:
Previously when people were setting up their streams, they needed to use a capture card to interact their stream PC with their game-play PC. And now, all they have to do is a fifty-cent wire and their local area network, and they do it with NDI and they’re really happy about it. If you’re a streamer, if you’re in the game world, there’s no way you do things without NDI, it became the de facto standard.
