2-Minute Tutorial: Live Video Editing Inside TriCaster Advanced Edition Media Players
July 01, 2016 by Chuck Baker
In this episode, NewTek’s Master Trainer Don Ballance brings you a 2-minute tutorial featuring TriCaster Advanced Edition’s capabilities for editing inside the media players. For this video, we will be editing inside the DDR, specifically.
First of all, you can click on any particular clip in the DDR and then scrub through that clip using the scrub bar along the bottom of the DDR window.
Below the scrub bar under DDR window, we have a Set In and a Set Out button you can use to set In and Out points on a clip, to select the portion of that clip that will actually be played when the clip is used in this session.
You can also use shortcut keys: hit “I” on the keyboard to set an In point and “O” on the keyboard to set an Out point. If you make a mistake on setting In and Out points and and want to start over again, the “G” key on the keyboard will expand that clip back to its full boundaries, allowing you to start that process over again.
In the video you can see that we can set our In and Out points very easily and quickly on each clip – using the “I” key to set an In point and then the “O” for the Out point, in just seconds, the operator goes through and makes In and Out points on all of the clips. To see all of them play, turn the Playlist mode on (below the DDR window) and you are ready to preview the sequence playback. Before that, however, let’s do one more thing.
Let’s add transitions or dissolves in between all of these clips. To do so, simply click on the “+” at bottom left below the DDR media window.
This opens the Media Browser window, where you can review available media and click to add something to that media player. Transitions show up in the list as things that you can add to the media player. In the example in the video, we choose a simple Fade and add it.
A new item gets added to the end of the sequence. We can grab and move it between the first two clips, and then we can copy and paste it on to the end of the second clip, then paste it again onto the end of third clip and so forth and now we have transitions in between all of the edits.
Now we are ready to view the sequence, so again select the first clip, we confirm that autoplay is on, so now when we transition to the DDR we are automatically going to see the entire list play, with transitions all playing in real-time from the media player in TriCaster Advanced Edition.
We hope this video has been helpful for you. If you have suggestions for other topics you would like covered in a 2-Minute Tutorial, please send us a message.
