2-Minute Tutorial: Working with Audio in NewTek Connect Pro
December 30, 2016 by Chuck Baker
NewTek Connect Pro includes a number of controls and options for handling of audio for the outputs. Most of these controls are available on a per-output basis, built into the controls available for each Output monitor in the UI.
The default audio handling is simply to use the audio embedded in a video clip or source that is active on an Output. Our presenter in the tutorial video loads up a clip into Output 1 that includes audio, and when he plays the clip, you can see that he has the VU meters for that Output turned on to show the audio levels.
The controls to turn VU meters on and off are available in the Overlay panel for the Output monitor.
Just as there are general Display controls on the lower right of the NewTek Connect Pro UI, there are general Audio controls at lower left of the UI. You can choose which of NewTek Connect Pro’s sources to monitor on the system headphones using a popup menu, and next to that is a volume control.
Use the Settings Gear by a given Output monitor to open the Configuration panel, and you will note there there is an Audio Source pulldown. This lets the operator assign any NDI source available over the network to a given Output, so you can mix and match the audio and video that you want the Output to send out over NDI to your production switcher. To use the audio embedded in a source, just select “Follow Video Source.”
There are also a stereo pair of audio faders available for each of the four Outputs, to allow for control of the audio levels on output. Real-time VU meters are provided for the faders as well.
